A call for doctors to look at alternatives to medication for the elderly

A University of Otago study found older people taking multiple high-risk
medications are twice as likely to fall and break bones, and many die within a
year of their injury.
Christchurch researcher Dr Hamish Jamieson says doctors should look at
reducing medications where possible.
He says a lot of medication is prescribed for problems like sleeping, but
doctors could look at other ways to help patients - without the side-effects.
