French newspaper L'Equipe is reporting that Barrett has been offered 2.66 million New Zealand dollars a season to play for Lyon after the 2019 world cup.
It would be the most lucrative contract in rugby history, eclipsing the one Dan Carter signed with Racing 92 after the 2015 rugby world cup.
Along with Lyon, Barrett is also thought to be on the radar of other French clubs such as Racing 92, Stade Francais and Montpellier.
