    Stay calm, organised and open-minded

That's former Black Caps coach Mike Hesson advice for batsmen in the United Arab Emirates as New Zealand A side preparing to open their tour against their Pakistani counterparts in Dubai on Friday.

Hesson helped guide the national team to drawn test and Twenty20 series and a triumphant one-day international duel against Pakistan when New Zealand last visited in 2014.

He says players who "jump at shadows" looking for too much can miss a straight one.

Hesson says they need to have their high percentage scoring options in order, because there's no point just looking to survive.

The Black Caps play their first international, a Twenty20, on October 31.
