Reuben Way thought his dream of being a professional footballer was over

The Australian has signed with the Wellington Phoenix from Victorian semi-professional club side Heidelberg United.

He was shocked to get the call from 'Nix coach Mark Rudan.

Way says he's involved in finance back home and it was a strange phone call that he was expecting to go in a different direction.

The Phoenix have completed their roster ahead of the start of the A-League season, signing 19 year old Kiwi Callan Elliott as the club's final youth player.
