Craig Murray Shaw crept onto the roof of Christchurch shopping venue The Tannery, on November 25.
He slipped in through a rooftop skylight and smashed into Mehmet Bavram's La Bu jewellery shop.
About 2700 items were stolen, including rings, bracelets and pendants.
Shaw helped police to recover about 1700 pieces of stolen jewellery dumped in a bag at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bromley.
Judge Gilbert says Shaw has a long criminal history with 24 previous convictions for burglary, and jailed him for two years and two months.
