The Ministry of Primary Industries has put out a recall notice for Roxburgh-produced Jimmy's Pies for containing MSG.
It affects the mince and mince-and-cheese varieties.
Jimmy's owner Dennis Kirkpatrick says they used to use MSG back in his father's day, but hadn't for years.
He says it wasn't until a customer with an allergy contacted them, that they realised not all of their suppliers were MSG-free.
Kirkpatrick says they discovered it had been reintroduced to the beef flavouring.
