Sir Michael Caine takes his wife with him "everywhere" - so he isn't tempted by "beautiful actresses"

The 85-year-old actor's significant other Shakira - who he has been married to since 1973 - accompanies him around the world to avoid the couple effectively leading "separate lives" by being apart.

Michael - who has daughter Natasha, 45, with the 71-year-old actress - is quoted by MailOnline as saying: "For a start, the obvious thing on location is you're going on location, you're married, with a load of beautiful actresses. You know what's going to happen.

"When you go away for a long time ... you visit places the other one's never seen, you eat in restaurants the other one's never been, you meet people the other one's never met.

"Both of you have started a separate life and it's very important you don't do that I think. So my wife goes with me everywhere."

Michael - who also has daughter, Dominique, 62, with his late first wife Patricia Haines, who died in 1977 aged 45 - previously admitted he was "so happy" with life he didn't know anyone who enjoyed their time on Earth as much as him.

He said: "I can't think of anyone who has a better life than me. I am so happy.

"People say to me, 'Do you believe in God?' And I say, 'If you had my life, you'd have to believe in God.' "

The 'Italian Job' star also made life easier for himself by changing his name by deed poll from his birth name of Maurice Micklewhite to the one he is more commonly known as, so he can jet around the world without any issues.

He said of the change: "Otherwise you're liable to end up in the nick for three hours. So my passport is the same name as me.

"My name really is Michael Caine. I hope my dad forgives me!"
