English champions Manchester City are off to a great start to their Champions League group match against Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium

European champions Real Madrid lead 4-nil away at Czech side Viktoria Plzen , while German champions Bayern Munich lead AEK Athens 1-nil.

Portuguese side Benfica lead Dutch side Ajax 1-nil and French club Lyon are 2-nil up on Germany's Hoffenheim.

Earlier this morning Spanish outfit Valencia overcame Swiss side Young Boys 3-1 and Roma won 2-1 at CZKA Moscow.
