    A major freight hub funded by the Provincial Growth Fund has local leaders excited about the growth potential in the central North Island


    Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones today announced 48-million dollars for the Manawatu-Whanganui region - 40 million of which will go towards the new freight centre.

    That money will be used by KiwiRail to finish site master-planning, concept design and secure land, for the hub to link road, rail, and air freight.

    Palmerston North Mayor, Grant Smith, says it is a critical step for integrating distribution and logistics networks.

    He says economically this is a real game changer.
