A warning the North Island will be impacted by a spike in electricity prices because of a planned outage over the weekend by national grid operator Transpower

The Kawerau paper mill, already feeling the crunch of power prices which have trebled, is questioning the timing of a planned outage for maintenance.
Allan Holden, energy manager at Norske Skog Tasman, says the gas outage is limiting the amount of generation in the North Island.
He believes the price of power will skyrocket and we've seen that already with prices three to five times normal price.
Holden says this is all avoidable by simply deferring the outage for a couple of months, when the gas supply is established.
