Claims a majority of Auckland drivers don't want lower speed limits in the city centre

Claims a majority of Auckland drivers don't want lower speed limits in the city centre

The Auckland Transport Board has adopted a plan to reduce speed limits on about 10 per cent of the city's streets - which includes a 30-kilometre-an hour speed limit for the CBD.

The AA claims it's a step too far, and spokesman Barney Irvine says they're urging AT to take a more balanced approach.

He says drivers don't want change according to a recent AA survey, where 62 per cent of respondents opposed or strongly opposed the idea.

The plan also looks to decrease some 100-kilometre-an-hour limits, to 80.
