The Courier Mail reports a year-long trial will see the under six grade play a modified game of tag league with tackling banned.
Premiership points, semi-finals and grand finals will also be abolished for under sixes through to under 12's.
Kids will be playing simply for fun, in a bid to retain junior players beyond the age of 13.
If successful, the changed rule set will be rolled out across Australia in 2020 by the NRL.
