A heavy rain warning has been issued for Northland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and parts of the Gisborne region

MetService says downpours are forecast from 1 in the morning till 9 on Christmas Night.
It says the rain could be heavy at times, with isolated thunderstorms possible.
Gisborne civil defence says with so many people camping at this time of year it's only prudent to give everyone a heads up.
It says people should prepare and have back up plans.
