    Kiwis are contributing to understanding a potential alternative to antibiotics


    University of Otago researchers looking for ways to treat infectious diseases are working to better understand how bacteria and viruses interact and evolve.

    Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Doctor Simon Jackson, says if they understand those interactions, viruses that kill bacteria - called "bacteriophages" - could be used instead of traditional antibiotics.
