On Tuesday, surfer James Gray used his surfboard to rescue two men and one woman caught in the rip.
Gray says he's heard of other surfers rescuing swimmers and says it helps if you have a flotation device.
He says when the lifeguards aren't on duty, there's no one else around, and people decide to go swimming and get in trouble, surfers are there to help.
