Doctors are hailing a breakthrough in emergency treatment for children having severe epileptic seizures

A landmark New Zealand-Australian study found combining two medications cut numbers of children needing intensive care.

Auckland University Professor - Stuart Dalziel - says up to five percent of affected children die as a result of seizures.

He says the research has led to a big improvement in stopping serious seizures - and increase the chances of a quicker recovery.
