A security guard was seriously injured and four nursing staff assaulted at Waikato Hospital this morning

A security guard was seriously injured and four nursing staff assaulted at Waikato Hospital this morning

Waikato DHB executive director of public affairs Lydia Aydon says there was an incident on one of the surgical wards around 2am.

She says the five were physically assaulted by a patient who was receiving treatment.

It's believed they used an oxygen cylinder to assault staff.

    The patient was arrested.
