We need to define what 'being impaired' means, before we introduce roadside drug testing

We need to define what 'being impaired' means, before we introduce roadside drug testing

The Government's asking for feedback over the next six weeks on plans to improve the process of testing drivers for drugs.

Victoria University Senior criminology lecturer, Dr Fiona Hutton says a drug like cannabis can stay in someone's system for some time.

She says if someone's picked up for driving with cannabis in their system, are they impaired, or did they smoke a joint two weeks ago?

Seventy one people were killed in crashes last year that involved a driver on drugs or medication.
