Better predator control thought to be behind Bluff titi increase
Better predator control ... is thought to be behind an increase in titi chicks at Bluff
21 May 2019
Forty-five titi - or sooty shearwater - chicks have been found in burrows at Bluff Hill, well up on the previous maximum of 30.
80 automatic rat and stoat traps were installed last year.
Bluff Hill Environment Trust chair Estelle Leask says it's exciting to see so many chicks.
She says the traps have been killing quite a few pest mammals - like rats and stoats - which would have an impact on the colonies.
