Three houses are uninhabitable, and more than 10 damaged, after a tornado tore through Coopers Beach, in the Far North.
Reportedly, tornados have also hit Kaiwaka, in Northland, and Te Puna in the Bay of Plenty - where a thunderstorm's also swept through.
More than a-thousand Bay of Plenty and Rotorua properties have lost power in the storm.
In Wellington, disruptions to flights in and out of the capital are expected as severe southerly gales roll in.
Heavy rain and gales are also expected in Auckland.
In the South Island, some Christchurch suburbs have been a chilly 2 degrees today - and snow's expected to fall tomorrow on high areas of the South Island's Lindis Pass, Crown Range Road and Milford Road.
