Calls for Maori to be involved in decisions that affect their tamariki

Calls for Maori to be involved in decisions that affect their tamariki

It comes after concerns raised over Oranga Tamariki in a Newsroom investigation, which showed the agency's attempt to take a newborn baby from a Maori mother while they were still in hospital.

National Maori Authority chairman, Matthew Tukaki, says he's meeting with Children's Minister Tracey Martin on the issue this afternoon.

He says the Government need to treat it as a partnership, allowing Maori organisations to come together with the Crown, to find a result.
