A Christchurch businessman who distributed footage of the Al Noor Mosque attack will spend nearly two years in prison

A Christchurch businessman who distributed footage of the Al Noor Mosque attack will spend nearly two years in prison

Forty four-year-old Philip Neville Arps has been sentenced to 21 months in prison, in the Christchurch District Court today.

He previously pleaded guilty to two charges of distributing the alleged shooter's livestream.

He also requested it be modified by another person to have cross-hairs and a "kill count" added.

Judge Stephen O'Driscoll told the court Arps' charges were the result of an attempt to glorify the deaths of members of the Muslim community.

He says sharing the footage so quickly after the attack showed particular cruelty and callousness.
