Cars will no longer come first in Kapiti, as the council moves to make roads more attractive to cyclists and horses

The Kapiti Coast District Council is slashing speed limits on more than 50 roads, many of them rural.
Some roads will see speeds reduced by as much as 40 kilometres an hour.
Public consultation revealed those living near the roads were concerned for the safety of cyclists, horses, and children.
Mayor K Gurunathan says cars need to share the road with other forms of transport.
He says for too long we've been living in a culture where cars reign supreme.
