Lake Taupo is still open for cruises and fishing following thousands of raw sewage spilling into it after a pipe burst

Lake Taupo is still open for cruises and fishing following thousands of raw sewage spilling into it after a pipe burst

About 80 per cent of the town's wastewater was flushed into the lake yesterday, after a pipe burst.

Taupo District Council chief executive Gareth Green says cruises and fishing can still go ahead on the lake.

He says the area where the discharge occurred is quite contained and its a very big lake so the rest of the lake is open for business.
