Police are encouraging people to speak to elderly friends and relatives about a sophisticated phone scam
5 July 2019
Two people have been arrested in connection with the con, in which callers pretended to be from Spark or the Police.
They demanded tens of thousands of dollars ... and many elderly people have given it.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Blackman says people need to be warned.
He says everyone should notify their grandparents, parents, and elderly neighbours.
Blackman says the police and Spark never ask people for bank details or money over the phone.
