Ramesh Nath was working as a chef at the Spice Room restauranrt last year, when he applied and was approved for annual leave to return to India.
However, when he tried to come back here, he found that Immigration New Zealand had cancelled his work visa, as his employer decided he wasn't coming back and had hired a replacement.
Nath was left at Hong Kong airport for 36 hours, before he boarded a plane back to India.
Due to his unfair loss of employment, the authority has ordered the Spice Room to pay him 87-thousand dollars.
