Fears that more babies will die because of issues at one of New Zealand's biggest hospitals

Fears that more babies will die because of issues at one of New Zealand's biggest hospitals

A Herald investigation into Middlemore Hospital shows babies have died partly because there weren't enough midwives, doctors, beds and theatre slots.

Lack of staff and beds contributed to the recent death or stillbirth of three babies, and other mums were seriously harmed.

DHB reports acknowledge substandard care resulted in... or led to deaths, but a spokeswoman told the Herald they were complex cases.
