Australia's policies on the deportation of Kiwis is detrimental to their health and rehabilitative needs

Australia's policies on the deportation of Kiwis is detrimental to their health and rehabilitative needs

That's according to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists which is renewing its call for the Australian Government to re-assess the policy.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spoke with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison about it on Friday.

College president elect Dr Vinay Lakra says many of the deportees have complex mental health needs, including psychiatric and substance use disorders.

He says they're being exacerbated by their detention and deportation experiences.
