Investigators are picking through the rubble left by a devastating gas explosion in Christchurch

Investigators are picking through the rubble left by a devastating gas explosion in Christchurch

Five houses have been left uninhabitable and five people remain in hospital after the incident in the affluent suburb of Northwood.

A substantial clean up is still needed for properties near 9 Marble Court - where Friday's explosion took place.

Council CityCare workers have cleared the roads - but chunks of concrete and wisps of insulation still litter nearby driveways.

Damaged vehicles and broken windows can also be seen on surrounding streets.
