The 2010 quake struck at 4.35 in the morning... at a magnitude 7.1.
It caused wide-spread damage.
Christchurch City councillor, Yani Johanson is the only councillor still standing who was around at the time.
He says every September 4, he goes to Richmond's Fisher Ave, to see the magnolia trees the community planted before the quakes.
Johanson says seeing flowering trees in the midst of the red zone... gives hope.
