A Devonport-Takapuna local board member says more research is needed on Whenuapai airport

Air New Zealand's talked about a second domestic airport at Auckland's Whenuapai's air force base, flying to Wellington and Christchurch.

Chair George Wood says the decision impacts local communities near Whenuapai - so it would be a big call.

He says until there is a Government decision on the airport, it's up in the air.
