Three Gisborne properties were evacuated yesterday at Wainui Beach - after four metre heavy swells damaged a sea wall.
And in the country's west, Port Waikato property owners are battling coastal erosion.
District Council local controller Will Gauntlett says two metres of beach were lost in August's wild weather.
He says he sympathises with coastal property owners, as it is not an easy fix.
Gauntlett says at Port Waikato, lumps of sand coming up from Taranaki impacts the rate of erosion.
