A bid's been dismissed to give the community life-long protection from one of the country's worst child sex offenders

The Solicitor-General tried to impose preventive detention on Auckland rugby coach Alosio Taimo - saying the sentencing judge should have done so.
Taimo was jailed in February on 95 charges of sexually abusing 17 boys, some as young as nine, over four decades.
But Court of Appeal judges aren't convinced lifelong preventive detention is necessary ... as Taimo will be 78 when his sentence expires, and he is not in good health.
