Carpet workers are striking today outside the Godfrey Hirst Wiri store - in Auckland

Fifty retail workers have been locked out by their employer - after a breakdown in living wage negotiations.

Union spokesperson Jarrod Abbott says instead of returning to the bargaining table, the company locked out unionised workers.

A Godfrey Hirst spokesman says the company is disappointed by the strike action.
