Widespread rain on the West Coast, as a slow-moving front rolls across the South Island

Metservice has issued an orange warning - which means people need to be prepared for adverse weather.

Over the last 12 hours, the heaviest falls have been further down the coast, in Milford Sound and near Mt Aspiring National Park.

Further heavy rain is forecast until mid-afternoon today.
