Christchurch's mayor is defending earthquake recovery work in the eastern suburbs

Christchurch's mayor is defending earthquake recovery work in the eastern suburbs

Lianne Dalziel has scored a decisive victory in the local elections - with a 16-thousand vote majority over her closest competitor, businessman Darryll Park.

Progress in the eastern suburbs was a contentious issue leading up to the election.

Dalziel says they've spent a lot of money getting badly earthquake damaged infrastructure up to scratch.

She says the Rawhiti Pumping Station has never had chlorine in it, because they've spend so much getting it above standard.
