The excavation is part of the demolition of the old Cadbury site, which will soon make way for the new Dunedin Hospital
A number of items have been uncovered including the old boot, as well as ceramic and glassware items, a smoking-pipe bowl, and a blue stone path.
The excavated area was previously registered as an archaeological site.
The former car park had been an industrial area, home to coal sheds and a soap works in the 19th century.
