Police searching for a Waikato man who went missing in June have located a body

Police searching for a Waikato man who went missing in June have located a body

They began a search of the Pirongia mountain area on June 17th after the 44-year-old man's car was seen in a car park in the area.

They've been systematically searching throughout the Mt Pirongia area for five months.

Senior Sergeant Paul Slater says a body was located at the summit yesterday.

He is acknowledging what has been an enormous effort by search and rescue over such an extended period of time.

Senior Sergeant Slater says he hopes it brings the man's family some sense of closure.
