A change to fishing rules in the Auckland Islands to better protect sea lions

Sea Lion Exclusion Devices are becoming mandatory in squid fishery.

Fisheries New Zealand Director, Stuart Anderson, says commercial fishing nets are a threat to sea lions.

He says they are also increasing oversight - 90 per cent of fishing activity will be accompanied a Government observer.
