Megan Rapinoe has capped a dominant footballing year with the women's player of the year at the Ballon d'Or awards in Paris

The winger co-captained the United States to victory at this year's World Cup, where she was named player of the tournament and finished joint-top scorer.

Argentine Lionel Messi has been awarded the men's gong for a record-breaking sixth time.

He was top goal-scorer in Spain's La Liga and the Champions League.
