An opportunity for rugby players to learn trade skills, as they pursue a professional sports career

An opportunity for rugby players to learn trade skills, as they pursue a professional sports career

The Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation's started a new initiative that allows rugby players flexibility to complete apprenticeships, while they're still playing.

Sam Smith plays representative rugby, is trialling for the Under 20 All Blacks and completing an apprenticeship.

He says learning a trade makes him feel more grounded for the future.

Smith says it's something to fall back on as you can't really rely on rugby.
