Michael Venus has found an encouraging silver lining following his first round singles loss at Auckland's ASB Tennis Classic

The kiwi doubles specialist has lost to defending champion Tennys Sandgren in straight sets.

However, Venus says it's the most comfortable he's felt on that court playing singles.

Meanwhile, ex-kiwi Cameron Norrie's lost to Brazil's Thiago Monteiro also in straight sets.
