The Wellington Firebirds have lived up to their billing as top seed, winning the men's domestic Twenty20 Super Smash cricket final at the Basin Reserve.

The Firebirds beat the Auckland Aces by 22-runs on their home turf.

After hitting 168, Wellington limited Auckland to just 146 with the bat through 20 overs.

Earlier the Wellington Blaze beat the Auckland Aces by 36 runs to win a third consecutive women's T20 cricket title.

The New Zealand Breakers have achieved a dominant win over Melbourne United in their Australian basketball league game in Auckland.

The Breakers jumped out to an early eight point lead after the first quarter, and continued to open the gap en route to a 90-68 win over Melbourne.

Rylee Field has won the New Zealand Cycle Classic in the Wairarapa.

A large stage four victory has been the catalyst for Field to win the overall title.

Dylan Kennett has won the fifth and final stage in a sprint finish.
