A 25-year-old is in hospital with gunshot injuries to his face, head and torso after a gang brawl in Taradale, in Napier

A 25-year-old is in hospital with gunshot injuries to his face, head and torso after a gang brawl in Taradale, in Napier

It was one of two gang-related incidents on the North Island's east coast in the weekend - the other a drive-by shooting in Ruatoria, north of Gisborne.

Detective Inspector Rob Jones says the man is in a stable condition, and it's lucky a child was unharmed when a pellet struck its car seat.

Police say tensions between the Mongrel Mob and Black power have escalated in recent months, and are urging anyone with information on either event to come forward.
