More Nelson reserves may be closed in the coming weeks - if the weather stays hot and dry

More Nelson reserves may be closed in the coming weeks - if the weather stays hot and dry

The Nelson City Council closed a number of reserves last night, due to the increased fire risk.

Councillor and parks and reserves chair, Tim Skinner, says the long dry spells have caused the ground to be parched in many areas.

He says some areas are harder to access and if there was a fire, you need to be able to quickly evacuate the area.

The reserves closed last night include include Grampians, Sir Stanley, Whitehead, Marsden Valley, Maitai Water, Brook Conservation and Roding Water reserves.
