The company liquidated after being hacked in January last year - losing 24 million dollars.
A hearing at the High Court in Christchurch today is determining how to distribute assets to almost one million users.
Lawyer Scott Barker says Cryptopia informed users its Terms and Conditions could change at any time - and it was up to traders to follow their own countries' anti-money laundering rules.
Cryptopia's Tees and Cees also stated a trade hadn't occurred until physical receipt of the currency.
Barker says physical receipt could never happen with crypto currency.
