Warnings from a justice advocacy group... systemic bias is harming Maori

Stats NZ data shows a Maori person with no previous convictions is 1.8 times more likely to have a police proceeding brought against them than a Pakeha.

They're also seven times more likely to be charged.

JustSpeak Director Tania Sawicki Mead says it has created distrust.

She says the Government and police need to take systemic bias seriously - so people can have faith in the justice system.
