Two cuts on the same stretch of fibre optic cable, are causing major problems for Vodafone customers in the Central North Island

The telco says contractors doing roadworks near Matamata, in the Waikato region hit the cable.

It's taken out services in areas including Napier, Hastings, Whakatane, Gisborne, Tauranga and Wairarapa.

Fixed-line and mobile services are affected, and efforts to fix the problem are under way.
