Changes to the building consent process have been a long time coming, in the eyes of master builders

Changes to the building consent process have been a long time coming, in the eyes of master builders

New exemptions to the Building Act will allow low-risk work to go ahead without a consent by August.

It covers minors jobs like sheds, sleep-outs and car ports.

Registered Master Builders Federation chief David Kelly says , people have been frustrated by building consents for a very, very long time.

He says it's the first of two steps to free up the consents system to some degree - and because it's focusing on the low risk stuff, he's pretty comfortable with what's being proposed.
