Shakes have been felt across the Lower North Island, and around the country after the magnitude 5.8 quake, centred north-west of Levin just before 8am.
Sanjay Patel says it shook food off the shelves, but the clean-up is manageable.
He says a lot of things fell down on the floor, and there was just a bit of damage, which makes them lucky.
